Well it’s been a long and arduous journey getting here but we have finally finished developing the online Pass Designer (we’ll share the challenges we encountered in another post). We are going to release a Beta shortly and then allow everyone access when iOS6 is announced.
It is the only online Pass Designer and Pass Creator that actually lets you see what the Pass will look like before you add it to Passbook.
There are a few other services out there, that allow individuals to colour a template and enter some of their own information, but noone has been able to provide the complete flexibility, within the Apple Passbook parameters, to design your own Pass.
Pass Designer will be made available to everyone when iOS6 is announced, and you don’t need to be an Apple Developer (although if you want to add your own certificates to your account you are able to).
If you want to save any of your Pass Designs, and come back to them later you just need to register with your email. You’ll then have access to your Account Management Page (which we are still finessing) where you can manage your passes, certificates, distribution etc..
Obviously not everyone, or more specifically some of the bigger businesses, will not want to use the web interface and prefer to use our API, but this effectively allows any business, or even individual, to create beautiful looking Passes and get them their, and their customers’ Apple Passbook.
Here’s a little demonstration of converting a traditional coupon into a Passbook coupon – in less than 4 minutes:
