On the week 31st of May – 2nd of June 2016, RISE came back to Hong Kong in full force for the second year, this time bigger and better at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition centre in Wanchai.

An estimated 15,000 people attended the event over the course of the week, with many businesses showcasing their expertise and ideas from all over the world.

PassKit had the chance to share its experience on the We Are HK founders panel through the words of Paul Tomes, PassKit’s Co-Founder and CEO.

Many questions were asked around several topics such as entrepreneurship, the startup environment in Hong Kong, the personal background of the speakers, the obstacles and difficulties they had to face as entrepreneurs, what motivated them to accomplish what they did and much more.

The interview was broadcasted on PassKit’s Facebook page as a live video, which you can watch here or below.

Some of the key points and pieces of advice that came out of the conversation (to anyone who’s planning venturing into the entrepreneurship world) could be summarised as follows:

  • Embrace uncertainty
  • Don’t be afraid of taking risks
  • Nurture your network and attend networking events
  • Hong Kong is a business-friendly place with relatively easy access to capital, as well as a strategic location to access Asian markets
  • Be passionate about what you do
